For students on taught courses, any books you have on loan will be automatically renewed for up to 4 months, providing there are no fines of over £5 on your account, that you have no other overdue books or that the book itself has not been reserved or requested by another reader.
You will not receive notifications that the renewals have taken place, but you can log into your Library account via Library Search to check your loans and their due dates.
If you need to return an item because it is at the end of its maximum renewal period or because it is at the end of it's renewal period you will get at least two notifications from us; the first email will be sent two days before the due date and the second on the due date itself. If you receive an email with a specific due date then the book must be returned on or before that date, the book will not automatically renew.
Where a book you have on loan has been requested by another reader, then you may also receive an early recall notice if you have more than one week left on your loan period; If you have less than 7 days left on your current loan period you will receive a notification that the item has been requested and whilst the due date is unchanged the book will not be renewed.

Microsoft 365 has a new 'Clutter' feature that was introduced which is automatically enabled for all users. This is designed to filter email items that it deems as not needing immediate attention, sort of a midway folder between inbox and junk. Library users can alter the priority of these messages to ensure that they go to their inbox in future, or alter settings to disable the Clutter feature completely.
The University Library sends these email reminders as a courtesy, however you are responsible for returning your books on time and we won’t be able to waive any fines on the basis that you did not receive an email.
