When you’ve typed your text, leave the cursor where you want the citation to appear. Go to References on the Word ribbon and click Insert Footnote (AB1), this will place a number in the text and at the bottom of the page (in the Footnotes). Switch back to EndNote on the Word ribbon and insert the citation, this will place the reference in the footnotes and start to create your reference list.
