There could be a number of reasons why you can't renew your Library books online.

  • You will not be able to renew a book that has been requested by another borrower. 
  • You will not be able to renew your books that have reached their maximum loan period (4 months for students on taught courses).  If you still wish to keep any books for longer, you will need to return them to the Library; once they have been returned and taken off your account you should be able to re-borrow them, which resets the loan period.  You can call at the Ask4Help desk for assistance with this. 
  • If you have fines of over £5 on your account you will need to pay them first before you can renew.  Items can be renewed by logging into your library account online via Library Search, calling 0191 227 4646 or coming to the Ask4Help desk.  Please note that if you have cleared fines on your account, but then renew overdue books you will incur overdue fines for that renewal as well. 
  • Your University Library account may be expiring or already have expired; if this is the case, and is incorrect then you will need to contact the Student Progress Team in Student Central.
