Q. Can students who graduate in summer 2019 still access the library?

Answer

Library and building access for students completing this summer expires on 30 June 2019.

If any of these students need occasional access to the Library over the summer they can be issued with a blue visitor pass in the normal way (they will need to show photo ID – which could be their expired smartcard – and proof of address). This will allow them to access the Library during core hours (8am-8pm).

However, if they are likely to want more frequent access during the summer vacation we can make them a summer reference access smartcard which will be valid until 18 September 2019. Please follow the temporary instructions "Summer Reference Access" which have been put in copies of the Registration Manual at City and Coach Lane.

They can use their expired smartcard as their photographic form of ID, and must also provide a second acceptable form of ID showing a current address.

We hope that this will assist students who are trying to get a head start on studies for new programmes, and will also cut down on the number of desk transactions where we have to check ID and/or sign people in and out of the building.

If students wish to borrow books, they can apply for alumni membership.

Students will be able to access their IT accounts (emails and U:drive) for a further 89 days from 30 June.

Any students who have informed the University that they will be doing resits should have had their SITS course end date (and therefore their smartcard expiry date) updated as part of this process, but please raise a CRM enquiry if an end date needs to be extended.

Access to IT facilities such as University email, printing, ebooks etc will carry on beyond your smartcard expiry date for at least 6 weeks but we would recommend that you transfer any work you have on your U: drive to a USB device or personal email as soon as possible.
