Q. What is Turnitin and how does it work?

Turnitin is text matching software that compares a students submitted work to sources held in the Turnitin database. Turnitin is used by tutors to check that any work submitted for assessment is original, and that correct use has been made of quotations, citations, and references.

Turnitin submission levels are set by your tutor; you may be able to check your own work depending upon these settings.

A number of guides to Turnitin are available on the Skills Plus section of the University Library's webpages.
